The Great Lakes Hernia Center is a center of excellence specializing in abdominal hernia repairs of all kinds. At the hernia center, repair methods combine local anesthesia (when appropriate), meticulous surgical technique, and early return to normal activities.

Studies show that having an experienced surgeon greatly increases one's chances for a long-lasting, trouble-free hernia repair.

Since the center opened in 1989, Dr. Nirdlinger has personally repaired 300-500 hernias per year. His experience, combined with our continued study of ways to improve hernia care, is offered to the patients of GLHC.

Recently, The hernia center has been serving a large Amish and Mennonite population. These patients have no health insurance and are attracted by our very reasonable rates which we negotiate through a non-profit organization. Dr. Edwin L. Nirdlinger
Former Chief of Surgery at the U.S. Naval Submarine Medical Center, Dr. Nirdlinger has developed his hernia repair techniques after careful study of many hernia repair methods. He is a charter member of the American Hernia Society. Dr. Nirdlinger is a member of the Toledo Clinic and has privileges at the Toledo Clinic Ambulatory Surgery Center as well as St. Anne's Hospital and Flower Hospital.
